PROFILE
John Crayton, M.D.
Dr. John Crayton, Director of Biological Psychiatry at Hines VA Hospital and a Professor of Psychiatry at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine, is widely recognized for his progressive studies in the field of mental health. His pioneering studies of interactions between the brain and the immune system have been funded by the VA and the National Institute of Drug Abuse. In addition, Dr. Crayton has conducted more than 20 clinical trials of pharmacological agents used for treating schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, depression, and smoking. Dr. Crayton credits a large measure of success for his clinical research programs to the cooperative spirit of his Veteran patients and to the talented and experienced study coordinators such as Francine O'Connor, MS, RN, Kathleen Foley, MS, RN, CS, and Barbara Poddig, PharmD. Dr. Crayton is the author of 56 published articles and 7 book chapters.
