PROFILE

Dr. Flanigan is Chief, Urology Section at Hines VA Hospital and Chair, Department of Urology at Loyola University Medical Center. He also holds an appointment as Professor of Urology at Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine. Dr. Flanigan’s research focus is on renal cell carcinoma, transitional cell carcinoma, and urologic cancers. He has received competitive awards from a variety of funding agencies such as the National Cancer Institute, VA Cooperative Studies, and VA Merit Review. He has participated in numerous research clinical trial studies that test new pharmaceuticals in the treatment of prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and other urologic cancers. He has obtained funding from Hybertech, Janssen Pharmaceuticals, and Upjohn Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Flanigan has written over 250 publications detailing the results of his research.

Dr. Flanigan is a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois Division of the American Cancer Society, the Medical Advisory Board of the National Kidney Foundation of Illinois, and the Advisory Council of the Metropolitan Chicago Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. Dr. Flanigan serves as a manuscript reviewer for several scientific journals, including Human Sexuality, Pharmacotherapy, Investigative Urology, and Journal of Urology.
