PROFILE

Dr. Hecht is a staff physician in the Infectious Disease Section at Hines VA Hospital and Professor of Medicine at Loyola University Medical Center. He is known internationally for his research in the field of antibiotic resistance among anaerobic bacteria and their related infections. His current research focus includes antibiotic resistance and resistance transfer in bacteroides fragilis, transposable elements, virulence factors of bacteroides fragilis, and virulence factors of coagulase negative staphylococci. Dr. Hecht has received funding for his research from Merck & Co., Pfizer, and VA Merit Review . He has written numerous articles for many scientific and medical journals.
