Alexander Karczmar, MD, PhD
Dr. Karczmar is a Senior Research Health Specialist and a Consultant to the Research Service at Hines VA Hospital. He is also Professor Emeritus in the Department of Pharmacology at Loyola University Medical Center. His research interests include pharmacology of the neuromyal junction and human muscle disease; synaptic and receptor-channel mechanisms; physiology and pharmacology of transmitter and trophic systems; aging, cholinergic metabolism and precursors; pharmacology of aging and Alzheimer's Disease; pharmacology and toxicology of and effects of anticholinesterases. To support his research, Dr. Karczmar has received funding from Ballweber Foundation, National Institutes of Health, and U.S. Department of Defense. During his long career, he has written numerous journal articles and book chapters.
