PROFILE

FRANCES M. WEAVER, PhD

Dr. Weaver is a Career Scientist Awardee, the Deputy Director of the Midwest Center for Health Services and Policy Research, and Research Coordinator for the SCI Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) at Hines VA Hospital. She also holds faculty appointments at Northwestern University Institute for Health Services Research & Policy Studies and University of Illinois School of Public Health.

The Midwest Center for Health Services and Policy Research (MCHSPR) is the nucleus for a diverse group of health services research professionals who share a common mission, "To conduct high quality research that will translate into improved patient and health system outcomes for veterans and the nation." As Deputy Director, Dr. Weaver facilitates the work of the Center.

VA's Quality Enhancement Research Initiative (QUERI) is designed to translate research discoveries and innovations into optimal patient care and systems improvements. QUERI focuses on nine high-risk and/or highly prevalent diseases or conditions among veterans: Colorectal Cancer, Chronic Heart Failure, Diabetes, HIV/AIDS, Ischemic Heart Disease, Mental Health, Spinal Cord Injury, Stroke, and Substance Abuse. Dr. Weaver is the Director of the QUERI group focusing on Spinal Cord Injury.

Dr. Weaver's own research interests include Long Term Care, Chronic Care Management, and Neurologic Diseases including Parkinson’s Disease and Spinal Cord Injury. She is a prolific writer with articles in many journals.
