KEVIN WEISS, M.D.
Kevin Weiss, MD, joined VA in 2000 as Director of the Midwest Center for Health Services and Policy Research located at Hines and Chicago VA Medical Centers. He also serves as the Director of the Center for Healthcare Studies, and co-Director of the Institute for Health Services and Policy Institute at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine. He is Professor of Medicine, in the Division of General Medicine at Northwestern University.
He began his academic career as Assistant Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine while also serving as a Fellow at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIH. From there he served as Associate Professor of Internal Medicine at the Rush Medical College and Director of the Center for Health Services Research at the Rush Primary Care Institute, Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke’s Medical Center in Chicago.
Dr. Weiss received his MD from the University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School in 1981. He received his clinical training in Internal Medicine at the Cook County Hospital, in Chicago. In 1985 he received an MPH from the University of Illinois School of Public Health and subsequently a Master’s in Health Services Administration in 1987 from the Harvard University School of Public Health. His post-doctoral training fellowship at the National Center for Health Statistics of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
As former Robert Wood Johnson Generalist Physician Faculty Scholar, Dr. Weiss research is focused on primary care conducting epidemiological and health services research projects involving access to care, guideline implementation, chronic care management, outcomes measurement, and quality improvement. He has published extensively in the field of respiratory illness with a focus on asthma.
