TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
CARES employees and their supervisors should familiarize themselves with the mandatory training requirements noted below and should ensure that they are in compliance with these requirements. Hines Research Service Training Requirements
- Radiation Safety Training
- Mandatory training for all personnel who apply for a Radioactive Materials User's Permit, as well as personnel who are exposed to ionizing radiation sources, or are working in radioactive materials areas.
- All such laboratory personnel must initially participate in both Part One and Part Two of the training prior to working with radioactive materials. Imaging and ancillary personnel attend job specific training programs.
- Subsequently, personnel are required to attend Refresher Training (Part Two) at least every 12 months.
- Shipment of Hazardous/Infectious Materials Training
- Required to be completed every three years by employees who handle or expect to handle any hazardous infectious materials including diagnostic specimens. This training is also required of any employees who handle the shipping containers for these materials.
- Human Subject Protections and Good Clinical Practice Training
- This course consolidates two mandatory training courses (Good Clinical Practice and Human Subject Protection) into one course thereby eliminating overlap and reducing the time required to meet mandatory requirements. The intended audience for this course is research personnel, which includes all VA investigators, research coordinators, research assistants, members of Research Offices, members of R&D committees, and members and staff of VA IRBs. All employees engaged in research involving human subjects must take this course.

- Preventing Sexual Harassment
- required bi-annually due on Dec. 31, 2004 and every other year after that
- VA Cyber Security Awareness
- required annually due Sept. 30 of every year
- VHA Privacy Policy Training
- required annually due Sept. 30 of every year
- Alternative Dispute Resolution Awareness Training
- due September 30 of this year
CPR Training Requirements CPR Info.doc.
- CPR certification is required to be completed every two (2) years for our research nursing staff, CARES encourages all of its employees, especially those who have patient contact, to get trained and certified in CPR.
