PROFILE

EILEEN COLLINS, PhD, RN

Dr. Collins is a Research Health Scientist at Hines VA Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at University of Illinois at Chicago. In 1999-2002, Dr. Collins was honored with the Advanced Career Development Award from the Department of Veterans Affairs, Rehabilitation Research and Development Service. In 2000, she earned the New Investigator Award from the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation.

Dr. Collins’ research program focuses on cardiovascular and pulmonary rehabilitation, exercise physiology, and quality of life. She has received funding for her research from American Nurses Foundation, AMVETS of Illinois Reactivation Center-Treatment/Research Initiative, International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation, VA Health Services Research & Development, VA Rehabilitation Research & Development. Dr. Collins has written many articles detailing her research findings.

Since 1999, Dr. Collins has served as Co-Chairperson of the Hines VA Hospital/North Chicago VA Medical Center Human Studies Subcommittee. She also is a manuscript reviewer for the Journal of Rehabilitation Research & Development and Progress in Transplantation, where, in addition, she is a member of the Editorial Board.
