NICHOLAS V. EMANUELE, M.D.

Dr. Emanuele served on active duty as an Army physician and endocrinologist from 1976 to 1978. Since that time, Dr. Nicholas Emanuele has been a staff physician at Hines VA Hospital and Professor of Medicine and Director, Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at Loyola University Medical Center. In addition to caring for Veteran patients in his large clinical practice, Dr. Emanuele has a long and productive career in both basic and clinical research on diabetes, the endocrine system, and the effects of alcohol on the male and female reproductive system. He has participated in a number of clinical trials that have assessed the safety and efficacy of new drugs to treat Type 2 diabetes. Currently, Dr. Emanuele is participating in a long-term multi-center VA clinical trial examining the relationship between blood sugar (glycemic) control and diabetic macro-vascular complications. The funding for his research has come from the VA and National Institutes for Health (NIH). He is the author of more than 115 peer-reviewed journal articles.
