This live virtual presentation will review the inaccuracies of pulse oximetry in patients with darker skin pigmentation, the limitations of using stated race/ethnicity in medical testing, and discuss the need to remove race correction in pulmonary function testing. The structural racism behind race correction in pulmonary function testing will be described to help work towards removing race correction from pulmonary function testing.
